“WE BELIEVE IN THE LOAN”

ITIIE PUBLICITY COMMITTEE SAYS WHY “It is said that you can’t sell anything without advertising, and many forms of publicity are called upon to help sell investments in the Victory Loan. The following are members of the publicity committee:- Messrs E. J. Champtaloup, C. W. Letford, F. Mitchell, R. E. Sissons, and H. Hurst as chairman. “Newspaper columns provide the chief medium through which the committee places its publicity—sponsored advertisements, news items and reports. “Like other committeemen, the publicity men believe in the loan and are sincere in their efforts to persuade their fellow citizens to ‘lend to defend the right to be free.’ “It takes many kinds of soldiers to win a war. All of our piide, admiration and thanks go out to our armed forces. But our fighting men want more than thanks. They want—and deserve—our wholehearted support from all of us at home. But can we say we are giving them the support they so richly deserve? “New Zealand calls i ow for financial support through the Victory Loan—to lend our money—is that a sacrifice? Each of you, ask yourself ‘What have I done to-day to deserve the protection I have enjoyed?’ Then invest in the Victory Loan.” Murchison County’s Investment The Murchison County Council has decided to invest £SOO in Victory Loan stock. A Soldier’s Example Trooper D. J. Tomlinson, of Ngatimoti. at present in Italy after three and a-half years’ service with the Army, has instructed his parents to transfer £IOO of his allotment moneys to National Savings. “His action exemplifies patriotism at its best and I commend it to all who have not yet subscribed to the Loan,” said a member of the Loan Executive when he heard the news this morning. Who Are Our Enemies? “Who are our enemies?” Most people will answer quickly—Germany and Japan. That is only half the truth. There is a third enemy who can fight just as bitterly and for years longer than Hitler can. His name is INFLATION. What can he do? (a) He can make you wonder whether it was worth while winning the war. (b) He can make you forget the words “cost of living” because your main concern will be “cost of existing.” fc) He can make every man, woman and child a casualty to a greater or lesser extent (you won’t lose a leg or an arm, but you will lose, at least, part of your belongings and nearly all of your peace of mind). (d) He can make every returned soldier say bitterly, “Is this what I fought for? Are the people of New Zealand worth fighting for?” The only way for those in New Zealand to fight ALL of their enemies is to lend their money without which complete victory over them all is absolutely impossible!
