MOTORING OFFENCES

FINES IMPOSED Two motoring cases were dealt with by Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M.. in the Magistrates Court this morning as follows: Bruce Sinclair Doel (Mr G. Samuel) pleaded guilty to failing to give way to traffic on the right at the intersection of Bridge and Trafalgar streets. Sergt. J. R. Corston said that defendant said he thought he could just get over in front of the other car. No collision occurred. Mr Samuel said there was no question of excessive speed A fine of £1 and 10s costs was imposed. Thomas Clifton McDonald pleaded guilty to driving a car on the NelsonStoke highway without due care and attention. The Sergeant said that defendant was driving over the Bishopdale rise when he saw 150 yards ahead a mob of sheep coming towards him. He applied the brakes and skid marks showed for 165 feet. He ran into the mob and damaged five sheep, which had to be killed. He voluntarily turned back and paid the drover £6 5s for the sheep, and reported the matter to the police. Defendant admitted driving at 45 m.p.h. Defehdant said the sheep were 150 feet away, not 150 yards. He was fined £3 and 10s costs.
