OBITUARY

MR O. L. BALLIN’ Christchurch, Sept. 21 The death has occurred of Otto Loui: Baffin, aged 55. a director of Baffin: Breweries N.Z. Ltd. Well knowi throughout the business community ol New Zealand. Mr Baffin supported many charities, both private and public. He served in the last war in France and Belgium.* On his return to New Zealand he took a keen interest in the Christchurch Forensic Club. of which he was an active member at the time of his death. In his earlier years Mr Baffin was a keen amateur boxer and took part in amateur contests in Christchurch and other parts of New Zealand. Swimming also was one of his hobbies. He is survived by his wife and a small daughter.—P.A. * MR J. J. w. POLLARD Wellington. This Day. The death occurred last night of Mr John James Weippert Pollard, of the office of the Director of Publicity. Parliament Buildings. He was at work as usual the previous afternoon and evening, but was taken iff yesterday morning. The late Mr Pollard was a member of the family well known in New Zealand through the Pollard Opera Company, and was always interested in that branch of theatrical life, having produced numerous amateur operatic ventures. He was born in Melbourne in 1888. He is survived by his wife and one son (overseas with the Air Force', and one daughter.—P.A.
