VICTORY WAR LOAN
ITo the Editor! Sir, —May 1 take the liberty through your columns of making an appeal to residents uf the Nelson district on an important matter of concern to all —the success of the Victory War Loan. •‘D-Day", the friendly invasion of the home front for thiancc for the prosecution of the war, will be Monday next, 28th August, and the campaign will continue till 4th October. This gives everyone the fullest opportunity of investing. The title of the war loan, “Victory," must make all hearts beat faster and direct thoughts and prayers to victory, peace and home-comings. It is a recognised fact that money is certainly needed until victory is won and, after that, for the consolidation of that victory, and, on every resident of this district —in fact on every New Zealander —fall the duty and responsibility uf lending in this the greatest cause the Dominion has ever faced. Let us all have faith in to-morrow, all look forward with confidence to the happier post-war period. In the meantime our duty is not to let up one fraction in our efforts to provide the funds our country needs for war purposes. We in the Nelson district are called on to provide £671,000 as our share of the £40,000,000 required. I am confident that, if one and aU will accept this as a challenge and an obligation, Nelson district will again not only raise the amount required of it hut exceed it at an early date. All of us must hear in mind four points: — ••We are asked to lend money at interest, not to give it.” “The money is needed to fight a war not yet won and its use will help maintain this Dominion’s financial health." “Every pound invested is an ad'vance towards both the Nelson and New Zealand objectives.” “Investing in loans fn total war is not the task of the few, but the duty of the many." Nelson district has never failed to respond magnificently to all Patriotic appeals. The Nelson War Loan Executive Committee ask for the same enthusiastic and wonderful co-operation and support as was accorded to the last war loan by the people of the whole Nelson district. That success is an inspiration for the Victory War Loan. 1 therefore appeal to one and all to invest in spirit of thanksgiving for the pleasing prospect of peace, for the victory that draws nearer day by day. and, in the words of a little girl on a campaign poster, “Help to bring my Daddy home."—-I am, etc., C. MILNER, Chairman, Nelson War Loan Committee. Nelson, 24th August.
