PETROL CONSUMPTION
London, July 2. The consumption of high octane petrol for a single present-day bomber raid on Germany had to be reckoned in millions of gallons, said the chairman of the Oil Control Board, Mr Geoffrey Lloyd, in a speech. It was often enough to take a car 3000 times round the world, and would cost about £200,000. One Lancaster bomber flying to the Ruhr and back consumed about 2000 gallons of spirit.—P.A.
