QUALITY OF PETROL
IMPROVED STRENGTH NOW BEING USED Auckland, July 2. The disclosure that for some time past the majority 0 f motorists had been driving on motor spirit of improved strength superior to the “super” grade spirit obtainable before the* war was made before the No. 2 (Auckland) Armed Forces Appeal Board when several oil and petrol storing and distributing companies appealed for a total of more than 50 employees or former employees. Appearing for the Atlantic Union Oil Company Limited. Mr H. O. Wiles said that all the petrol now being received was 80-octane spirit, the use of which brought about a considerable saving in mileage. A large percentage of the petrol was aircraft spirit and its performance was far ahead of that of the 67-octane spirit in use previously.—P.A
