FIGHTING SERVICES CLUB
WEEK-END ACTIVITIES
With over 150 to tea on Sunday evening, between 60 and 70 {or lunch, 50 to morning tea, and 70 to supper, the members of the Fighting Services Club commit 2 were kept very busy yesterday catering for the requirements of the men and women of the forces. Valuable help in this direction was given by various people who sent gifts of sponge cakes, pikelets, scones and a large urn of soup. Members of the Wakapuaka branch of the W.D.F.U. sent donations of cake and groceries, and the Murchison W.W.S.A. forwarded a large sack of vegetables. The committee acknowledges these generous donations with gratitude. Members of the Townswomen’s West Guild were in charge of the luncheon arrangements on Sunday.
On Friday and Saturday evening very jolly dances were held i n the club room. About 80 people were present on Saturday evening when the music for the dancing was supplied by an Air Force guest at the piano, accompanied by another airman on the banjo-man-dolin.
On Sunday evening visitors to the club enjoyed community singing, table tennis, quoits, Chinese checkers, cards and other games. The flowers in the club room had been beautifully arranged by members of the Horticultural Society. Large bowls of yellow wattle, iceland poppies, japonica and other flowers lent a bright touch of colour to the room.
