GENERAL ELECTION
NATIONAL CANDIDATES FOR AUCKLAND SEATS Auckland, July 2. Eight official National Party candidates for the Auckland seats at the General Election were announced by the Auckland division of the party today. They are:—Auckland Central, Mr W. G. S. Swabey; Auckland East, Mr H. T. Merritt; Auckland Suburbs, Mr T. A. Bishop: Mt. Eden, Lt.-Colonel W. h’. Fortune; Franklin, Mr J. N. Massey, M.P.; Grey-Lynn, Miss Ellen Melville; Onehunga, Mr J. Park; Roskill, Captain R. G. McElroy.
The sitting National members in the South Auckland electorates have also been confirmed as the party’s official candid .tes at the election. These are:— Bay of Plenty, Mr W. Sullivan; Hauraki, Mr A. S. Sutherland; Tauranga, Mr F. W. Doidge; Waikato, Mr W. S. Goosman; Waitomo, Mr W. J. Broadfoot.
Announcements will be made later in the month of the party’s official candidates for Auckland West, Bay of Islands, Hamilton, Marsden, Otahuhu, Raglan, Rotorua, Thames and Waitemata. —P.A. PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT CANDIDATE Wellington, This Day. The People’s Movement is sponsoring the candidature of A. Tronson, for the Remuera seat. Mr Tronson is a journalist on the literary staff of the “New Zealand Herald ” Auckland, and for some time was sub-editor of the “Wanganui Chronicle.” He was a Main Body man in the last war and recently occupied the position of Captain-Com-mander of the Remuera Home Guard Mr Tronson is well-known in sporting circles. He is the judge of the Auckland Racing Club and handicapper for clubs in the Auckland progince, a representative cricketer and interested m Rugby and boxing. Mr Tronson is a resident of Remuera.
