THE PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT CANDIDATES FOR 16 SEATS ANNOUNCED The names of 16 independent candidates, sponsored by the People’s Movement. who have been selected to contest seats at the forthcoming General Elections, have been announced by the Dominion secretary of the movement (Mr A. P. Harper). The candidates selected are:—Flying Officer Clive Drummond, Wellington West: Mr T. W. Featherstone, Wellington Suburbs; Mr W. F. Smithson, Wairarapa; Mr Rugby Malcolm, Wellington North: Mr R. A. Wallpole, Wanganui; Mr E. C Russell, Wellington East; Mr E. C. L. Lawrence, Marlborough; Mr W. C. Hewitt, Waitemata; Mr H. W. G.ynn, Otahuhu; Major Hartley Wilson, E.D , Eden; Sergeant J. T. Donovan, D.C.M., Auckland Suburbs; StaffSergeant L. E Reid, Onehunga; Mr R. J. Culver. Roskill; Mr L. R. Wilkinson, Tauranga; Mr Digby Perrett, Waimarino; and Mr W. J. Crawford, Otaki. Flying Officer Drummond is well known in broadcasting circles; he is a returned soldier of the Great War, and has a good sporting record in Rugby and cricket. Mr Featherstone, who is 46 years of age, is managing director of R. H. Armstrong (New Zealand) Ltd , and vice-chairman of the metal trades group of the Manufacturers’ Association. A returned soldier of the present war, Mr Smithson is an R.SA representative on the Wellington Rehabilitation Committee. Mr Rugby Malcolm is a Wellington businessman and has been associated for many years with R.S.A activities Also a returned soidier of the Great War, Mr Wallpole is well known in broadcasting and is president of the Wellington South branch of the R.S.A. Mr Russell is in business at Kilbirnie, and is a returned soldier of the Great War. Mr E. C. L. Lawrence, who will content the Marlborough seat, is an executive member of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Marlborough Patriotic Society, and the Nelson-Marlbor-ough-West Coast League of Local Bodies. He is chairman of the Marlborough Production Council, and the Sounds Harbour Board and Roads Board, as well as being chairman of directors of the Flaxbourne Lime Company. Mr Hewitt is a barrister and solicitor and farmer. Mr Glynn is a well known businessman in Auckland. With a record of service in the Great War and in the present war. Major Wilson IS an executive member of the Auckland R.S A. Sergeant Donovan has bad an adventurous career in the present war. A member of the Second Echelon, Staff-Sergeant Reid is a commercial traveller and a representative hockey player. Mr Culver is a businessman at Auckland, and has served in both wars Mr Wilkinson is at present Mayor of Tauranga. Mr DigbJ Perrett has taken a prominent part in t.ie sawmilling and timber trade in the North Island. Forty-two years of age, r , .ft J * Crawford is a printer and publisher.
