RETURNED TO OWNERS
AUSTRALIAN SMALL BOATS Sydney, June 11: Owners of small boats and of river craft welcomed the official announcement to-day by the Army Minister, Mr F. M. Forde, that the Government had agreed to allow all types of small boats, hitherto immobilised in New South Wales, to be returned to their owners. Mr Forde emphasised that if the war position necessitated such action, small craft would be immobilised again with a view to their destruction before they could fall into the enemy’s hands. The loss of the boats, particularly at pleasure and seaside resorts, led to considerable heartburning and would probably have meant ruination to persons whose livelihood depended on -hiring pleasure craft on rivers and estuaries. Ever since the Government commandeered thousands of boats in the early part of the year, the supplies of fish on the metropolitan markets have fallen away heavily.—P.A.
