STOKE SCHEME FURTHER DELAYED OWING TO WAR CONIIITIONS “It has not been possible owing to war conditions (o reticulate the Stoke district for its water supply,” stated the chairman of the Waimea County Council (Councillor .1. Corder) in his annual report. “However the committee has met on a number of occasions in connection with the Richmond Borough Council proposal to purchase water from the Nelson City Council and instal a leading main through Stoke to carry the water to the Richmond borough’s reticulation system. “A preliminary agreement satisfactory to the Borough Council, has been arrived at, enabling residents in Stoke along the prospective pipeline to purchase water. Loan proposals to carry cut the Richmond scheme were carried at a poll of ratepayers, and it is hoped that conditions will allow the scheme to be carried out with benefit to both districts.” A loan proposal for the reticulation of the Stoke riding area of the county was carried about four years ago.
