ABSENT FROM E.P.S. PARADES
WELLINGTON MAN FINED £5 COMPULSORY ASPECT OF DUTIES STRESSED Wellington, This Day. Clifford Wilmot Ross, shoe store proprietor, Lower Hutt. was fined £5 by the Magistrate, Mr Goulding, for failing to carry out duties required of him by the E.P.S. organisation. Evidence was given that he was a member of a unit and was absent from three parades and from a trial, adequate notice of all of which had been given. The compulsory aspect of E.P.S. duties was stressed during the hearing. The defence was that Ross was away on one of the dates, and also that he had not seen any notices in the paper. It was pointed out that any member o p the E.P.S. contemplating absence from the district for a period of 16 hours was required to notify the controller of the unit.—P.A.
