ALASKAN DEFENCE BASE Seattle, Oct. 12. The Navy announced that a dynamite warehouse at the naval air station at Sitka. Alaska, had exploded. A fire occurred at the Sitka base and the explosion was caused when the flames reached the warehouse. The blaze was out of control for iwo hour*. Six people are dead and 13 are injured. BIG EIRE AT RUBBER PLANT New York, Oct. 12 An unexplained fire destroyed six buildings and huge stocks of defence materials at the Firestone Rubber Company’s plant, leaving 2000 employees out of work. Agents of the Federal Bureau ol investigation and officers of the army intelligence service arc investigating the fire, which is still burning after 16 hours. Firemen from 00 stations fought the flames. The plant had been working day and night producing gas masks, rubber carlridge belts for machine-guns, and other rubber products for the military.— U P A.
