AUCKLAND BLACKOUT TEST Auckland. Oct. 13. j Commenting on Auckland’s iir.-t emergency blackout test, held last night from 9 to 9.30 o’clock, the mayor |Mr J. A. C. Allum. said that on the whole the authorities were satisfied with the results. The system of warning signals given .from 64 points ap- ; peared to be adequate. A limited amount of street lighting was left on and many shop lights were not extinguished. Motorists had eni operated excellently and after the first few minutes trams and buses were unj der excellent control. Weaknesses disclosed would be remedied. Curious crowds in the city fumbled their way through the darkness or stood in groups watching unextinguished lights as wardens or policemen took the names of offenders. Largo crowds assembled on top of Mount Eden and other vantage points. The black-out on the waterfront was a complete success. Cargo operations were suspended.
