VICTORY V
Australia broke out with a rash of Victory V’s almost overnight. Councils put huge illuminated signs on their Town Halls and men painted them on j their socks. Telephonists said “Victory V. number, please?” and policemen made the V with their arms when stopping the traffic. Amusing was the manifestation of an aged Chinese market gardener. On the ; canvas cover of the cart in which he 1 took his produce lo market was whitej washed:- | “Vegetables velly dear. Victory velly j near!” ■ j Which is more probably occidental than accidental.
