The Price Tribunal heard of it, and pointed out to the board that no application had been made for permission for an increase. The general manager of the board, Mr li. E. Jar- j man, immediately brought the fares back to Dd. and the board has since put in formal application for an increase: The price stabilisation order recently announced by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash, included tram fares. Explaining the position to-night, the : acting-chairman of the board, Mr J- K. j Archer, said the change was made be- ! cause, as the fares were before the ini crease, regular users of these lines holding trip tickets were paying more than , the buyer of a casual return ticket. To remove any objection on this score, the price of the casual return ticket was put up a penny. The board considered that it was removing an anomaly rather ■ not think, the Price Tribunal had any interest in the matter. However, as, I soon as the tribunal heard of the rise j |;t acted, and, on its representations. Mr Jarman brought the price down again.—P.A.
