OBITUARY
D ; MRS ELIZABETH HARFORD 1 Mrs Elizabeth Harford, who passed j j away recently after a lengthy illness, j j was a daughter of the late Thomas I j Hodgkinson, and was born at Tadmor .j 69 years ago. At the age of 20 she j married Mr Walter Harford, the young | couple settling at Kiwi where they ex- . j perienced all the vicissitudes of the 3 back country settlers. In those days - the railway terminus was at Belgrove, l and the nearest doctor at Wakefield. 5 Under such circumstances the Tadmor . Valley settlers learned to rely on Mrs • Harford in times of sickness, and many of the older residents of that district still remember Mrs Harford’s ready assistance in times of trouble. In 1919 • the family moved to Appleby where ' they successfully farmed one of the : best-known properties in the Waimeas. 5 The funeral was largely attended, • over fifty cars joining in the procession tc the Richmond Cemetery, where the 1 service was conducted by Mr W E. t Vickery, of the Church of Christ. Mrs Harford leaves a widower and fam.uy of six—Messrs T. Harford, of Takaka; Claude Harford, Blenheim; Harold and Arthur, of Appleby; Mesdames B. Callaghan, Stewart’s Estate; - and P. Maxwell, Hokianga.
