EVACUATING CIVILIANS
PREPARATIONS IN VICTORIA Melbourne, Julv 31 Nearly 100 municipalities in northern ’j Victoria have been asked by the State M Emergency Council to prepare plans for - billeting civilians in the event of enemy : attack. Municipalities will be given • the necessary powers under the Na- | tional Security Act to do this work, i They will be given the power of com- j pulsorv billeting, and power to acquire »; properties for use as hostels, auxiliary ■ hospitals, and other purposes. I councils have also been told (hat. for (planning purposes, the possibility of an i ,! increase in the population of the muni- • cipality by 66 per cent, should be en-; i visaged.
