CONCENTRATION OF SHIPPING
EFFECT ON SMALLER PORTS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington. This Day. Concern at the effect of the concentration of shipping at Auckland and Wellington on the port of New Plymouth was .expressed by Mr F. L. Frost (Govt.. New Plymouth) in a notice of question given in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr Frost said he would ask the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr Nash) whether his attention had been drawn to the statement that waterside workers were moving from Bluff. Wanganui. New Plymouth, Napier. Gisborne and Kaipara to the metropolitan centres, and whether, in view of the serious consequences to the provincial centres, an opportunity would be given to the interested parties to discuss the question of overseas shipping allocations with the Government. In a note Mr Frost said that the concentration of shipping at Auckland and Wellington was seriously affecting the employment of waterside workers, and if continued to any great extent, would cause grave dislocation in their affairs. The Harbour Board also had certain overhead commitments which were based on a fair share of overseas trade, and they claimed that direct shinping could be dealt with as quickly and efficiently at New Plymouth as at
