I According to legend. Zeus fell in love | with Io and changed her into a heifer j to protect her from the jealous wrath , of Hera. In the course of her wanderI ings, pursued by the gadfly sent by i ' Hera. Io swam across the strait and j 1 from this event the waterway took its j j present name.
