RED CROSS SOCIETY’S AIM STREET DAY APPEAL TO-MORROW The Red Cross Society is an interj national organisation and is non-poii- {! tical. Owing to recent legislation the l activities of the Society have been restricted. Funds which could previously _ be remitted to various parts of the world for tho relief of suffering can j now only be sent out of the Dominion 1 subject to the Government's approval, j { Some £6OOO has been remitted from . , this district to augment the Dominion Red Cross funds and further sums will j be forthcoming from the Provincial -j Council as and when the need arises. Meanwhile funds are urgently reB quired to carry on the focal activitTes . of the Red Cross in conjunction with the Order of St, John ~ These activities include the formation of a Voluntary Aid Detachment, and . funds will be needed to provide the l equipment necessary for the training of : the Voluntary Aids. 1, Some branches of the Red Cross i maintain a V.A. Detachment in peace time, for there are many activities that the Red Cross can carry out. Up to the present, the Nelson branch has had no J such personnel, but at the urgent request of Dominion headquarters, it now wisher; to come into line with the rest . of N(«.v Zealand With the organisation of the E.P. 5 scheme provision for further nursing , assistance is urgently required, and the , Red Cross appeals to all women be . tween 18 and 40 who can spare the ; time to qualify as V.A.'s. This necessitate? obtaining a diploma in First Aid. Nursing and Hygiene. In order to raise funds lor carrying on this work in Nelson a street coi- ■ lection will be niaec to-morrow.
