INTRUDERS SHOT AT
CAR TYRE PUNCTURED ARREST OF TWO YOUTHS Auckland, This Day. Four intruders who broke into Lees Brothers’ garage at Papakura shortly before four o'clock yesterday morning were pul to flight by one of the proprietors, Mr H. P. Lees, who fired a shot which punctured a back tyre of the car in which two decamped. Entrance was gained by breaking two glass panes in the front double doors of the building. The intruders were not successful in their search for money I in the office and as fur as is known | nothing is missing. Mr Lees, who was sleeping above the garage, was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and hurried downstairs ; with a shot gun. He surprised two men who managed to run away and when two more appeared they ran to a ca*\ which is alleged to have been converted previously, and escaped. As the vehicle moved on to the main highway Mr Lees fired a shot into one of the rear tyres, puncturing it, but the car continued on its way. The Papakura police were immediately notified and all stations between Papakura and Auckland began to conduct a thorough search of their areas for the From the central police station in Auckland a night patrol car with Sergeant F. Edwards and Sergeant F. Taylor made a fast journey down the Great South Road. A car was chased for about a mile in the vicinity of Green Lane before it was stopped. Two youths were later arrested and will be charged before the Children’s Court. A search is being made for a further two men.—P.A.
