ESTABLISHMENT OF U.S. BOARD AMERICAN HELP FOR ALLIES (Rec. 10.0 a.m.) Rugby, Aug. 1 The establishment of the United Stales Economic Defence Board under the chairmanship of Vice-President Wallace is warmly welcomed by Economic Warfare authorities in London who point out that American help for the Allies now leads over the whole field of Economic Warfare against the Axis. The object of Economic Defence was originally to conserve supplies of important war materials needed for American armament but it now includes I export control designed to prevent those materials reaching Axis powers. Other steps are: (1) The freezing of assets of Continental Europeans. Japanese and Chinese. (2) The publication of a black list of Latin American nationals trading with Axis interest. (3) The control of shipping, designed to acquire ships for the United States and deny them to Axis traders. The importance of these measures is shown by the composition of the board appointed to supervise them which includes most prominent members of the United States Cabinet. —8.0. W.
