ALTERATIONS IN RUSSELL STREET
(To the Editor J Sir.—The strange way in which our City Council thinks is well illustrated by recent alterations to Russell street. The apparent idea is to provide two traffic lanes divided by a grass strip. Apart from the unnecessary nature of the work, and the confusion to motor- : sts which is bound to come, there are many more worthy works which should demand prior attention. The zig-zag oath between Russell street and Queen’s road is a source of annoyance I and danger to residents of that area. During the recent prolonged frosts the path had a glassy surface which was a positive menace to life and limb. A resurfacing of this path and a railing thereon would be a much-apprecia-led help during frosty weather and "black-outs.” I would suggest that one of our councillors try to find his way down this path on a very dark, wet night: perhaps some improvements on the lines suggested would then be made. —I am, etc., MANY A SLIP.
