Jack Dempsey is suffering from peritonitis following the removal of a gangrenous appendix in hospital. He spent a fair night and is resting comfortably. His wife is staying at the hospital so that sh«* may be near him. A later message stated that the hospital superintendent announced, “Dempsey is a very sick man.” Telephone inquiries concernig Dempsey’s condition aie so numerous that extra operators have been employed at the hospital switchboard, some calls coming in from us far distant as California. Doctors said that another bulletin would be issued at 4.30 p.m. E.D.T.
