Matches on the third day of the English lawn tennis championships at Wimbledon to-day resulted: MEN’S SINGLES (Holder: D. Budge, U.S.A.) SECOND ROUND C. E. Mayfroy (New Zealand) defeated H. S. N. Lee (Britain), 6-2, 6-4, 7-5.

Gabory (Hungary) defeated J. Gunn (New Zealand), 7-5, 9-7, 5-7, 6-2. H. W. Austin (Britain) defeated W. T. Anderson (Britain), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Riggs (U.S.A.) defeated E. R. Avory (Britain), 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. | F. Kukuljevic (Yugoslavia) defeat- | ed W. D. McNeill (U.S.A.), 6-4, 7-5, 6-1. E. Smith (U.S.A.) defeated R. Menzei (Germany), 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. R. A. Shaves (Britain) defeated J. Pallada (Yugoslavia), 6-4, 3-6, 9-7, 2-6, 8-6. WOMEN’S SINGLES (Holder: Mrs H. Wills-Moody, U.S.A.) SECOND ROUND Mrs Little (Dorothy Round), Britain, defeated Mrs D. Andrus (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-0. Mrs R. Mathieu (France) defeated Mrs M. R. King (Britain), 6-1, 6-0. The defeat of W. D. McNeill (U.S.A.) by the Yugoslavian player F. Kukuljevic, Is a major upset, for McNeill, who was recently successful in the Fiench championships in both singles and doubles events, was third in the Wimbledon seedings. Another surprise was the defeat of the seeded player It. Menzel by the American E. Smith.
