It was reported at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union last night that the council of the union had approved of a team from the Fiji union touring the Dominion this The following itinerary had been approved for the tour:— 17th August: Leave Suva by Monowai. 21st August: Arrive Auckland 26th August: v. North Auckland. 30th August v. King Country. 2nd September: v. Auckland. 6th September: v. Nelson and Golden Bay. 9th September: v. Bullcr. 13th September: v. Ashburton. 16th September: v. Maoris, at Hamilton. 18th September: Leave Auckland. 21st September: Arrive Suva. RUGBY TOURS It: was decided to grant the Nelson union £75 towards the cost of sending its team on a tour of the North Island. A request from the Thames Valley union for a grant toward the cost of a primary schools’ tournament was referred back for particulars as to what centres the teams would come from. The Taranaki union applied for a grant toward the cost of sending a team consisting of representatives and colts on a tour to Thames Valley, South Auckland, and Hamilton. It was decided to ask the Taranaki union what subsidies it expected to receive from the unions it was proposed to visit. SOUTH ISLAND MINOR UNIONS At the suggestion of Mr A. A. Adams, convener of the South Island selectors, it was agreed that the members of the South Island minor unions should be assembled at Christchurch on the morning of 18th August, and that the players should have a couple of hours together on the training ground. The New South Wales union advised that Messrs W. W. Hill and Dr. W. F. Mathews had been appointed delegates to the Empire Rugby conference in London, and suggested that the New South Wales and New Zealand unions should exchange remits to be submitted to the conference. The request was agreed to. Mr Dean mentioned the loss the Auckland union had sustained by the death of its secretary, Mr W. Maben, and on his motion a vote of condolence was passed to Mrs Maben and the Auckland union.
Mr Dean said that a ruling had been given that, provided motor-cars or lorries did not ply for hire or charge a fee, they were at liberty to convey Rugby players to and from matches.
