BOWLERS ON TOP

VICTORY BEAT WAKATU Victory 110, met and defeated Wakatu at the Botanies on Saturday by 50 runs on the first innings. Wakatu won the toss and sent Victory in to bat. Lumber and Uarguilo opened, but the first wicket fell before a run had been scored. Nordberg bowled Garguilo with his fourth ball. Hughes was next, and after an hour’s batting for a stubborn 20 Hughes was clean bowled. Donald started slowly and when the innings closed, was unbeaten with 37. McNamara was the only Victory batsman to stay with him. Batting for Victory Hughes 20, McNamara 16 and A. Donald 37 not out scored well. Bowling for Wakatu Nordberg took fiVe for 23, Harris two for 14, Langrope two for 15, Tarrant one for 37 Wakatu opened with Coleman and Mayes and they gave the side a good start as 31 was on before Reid bowled Mayes. At this stage the Victory bowlers Holland and Reid, backed up by excellent fielding, were definitely on top. Holland bowled unchanged for Victory and secure 1 six for 24 off 10 overs, and Reid four for 11, off six overs, shared the wickets. Actually extras was top score for Wakatu with 15. Coleman 10, Mayes 14, and Nordberg 10 were the batsmen who reached double figures. Wakatu were all out when the total reached 60.
