POCS OF IMMORTALITY —It was from this pool of Amrila Saras, the pool of Immortality, that the city of Amritsar received its name. Ram Das, the fourth guru, laid the foundations of the city upon a site granted by the Emperor Akbar, and it was Ram Das who excavated the holy pool. In the centre can be seen the Golden Temple, built on a small island in the pool This Temple is the chief worshipping place of the Sikhs.
