SUCCESSES CLAIMED BY REBELS (Received 23rd January, 9.45 a.m.) BARCELONA, 22nd January. Severe fighting continues on the outskirts of Igualada and Villafranca. The former town is reported to have changed hands several times yesterday. The insurgent advance from Calaf lo Manresa is stated to be held up at Salaverina. A message from Burgos stated that the capture of Igulada and Villafranca is definitely claimed by the rebel vanguard, which is reported to be nine miles from Manresa. They also claim to have occupied Altes. CONSTRUCTION OF FORTIFICATIONS | A decree closes all non-military business houses in the coming week for the release of workers for the construction of city fortifications. Failure to respond will be regarded as high treason. Two British ships, he Dover Abbey and Seabank Spray were hit during eight air raids on Barcelona between 10.30 0.r.:. and midnight.
