JAPAN AS POSSIBLE AGGRESSOR
NEW ZEALAND HAS NEED TO FEAR LORD STRABOLGI’S VIEWS I United Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, 22nd January. “As part of the British Empire and as a Pacific country, New Zealand certainly has need to worry about Japan as a possible aggressor,” said Lord Strabolgi to-night. “The forward school of Japanese militarists make no secret that their aim, summed up in two words, is world domination.” If Japan succeeded in China, he said, then when she recovered she would be a formidable menace. Fortunately, there was Russia, of whom the Japanese were very properly afraid. So long as Russia was strong and friendly to the British Empire she could hold the Japanese in check. “One of the extraordinary mysteries of the high policy pursued by the present Government in England is that it seems to go out of its way to rebuff Russia,” said Lord Strabolgi. “Another is why that Government is allowing Fascist Powers to establish themselves in Spain right on our Mediterranean and Atlantic trade routes.”
