JUNIOR TENNIS

ALL FIVE TITLES TO AUCKLAND ALSO WILDING BANNER 'United Press Association 1 WANGANUI, 21st January. The five titles in the New Zealand junior tennis championships, which concluded in Wanganui to-day in ideal conditions, were won by Auckland players with the assistance of J. Smith (North Auckland) in the boys’ doubles. Apart from the girls’ doubles final, the matches to-day did not provide even or exciting tennis, all the winners of titles having easy victories in the final matches. The best performance of any player was that of A. Burns, Auckland. He won the boys’ singles, the boys’ doubles and mixed doubles. In the whole tournament only one match in which he played went to three sets, and that was in the quarterfinal of the mixed doubles, when he and Miss M. Hodges (Auckland) narrowly beat the Wellington pair. J. Walker and Mis E. Gilmour. In his final against R. McKenzie (Wellington) which he won 6-0, 6-0. Burns always was brilliant. He made only one mistake in the first set and McKenzie, who was obviously incapable of playing his normal game because of nervousness, won six points. In the second set McKenzie won 11 points in I the six games. Auckland have how won the Wilding Banner, the singles titles giving them a lead of two points on Wellington. Miss B. Potter (Auckland) thorough- | ly deserved her win in the girls’ singles. She was undoubtedly the best girl player in the tournament, revealing a j wider range of strokes, smoother j execution and more enterprise than any other entrant. In the final she beat D.
