NATIONAL SERVICE
IN TIME OF WAR CAMPAIGN IN ENGLAND I British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 21st January. A great co-ordinated campaign for the enrolment of volunteers for various branches of national service, and particularly organisations concerned with air raid precautions, opens next week. The Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain will broadcast to the nation on Monday night, and on Tuesday there will be a national service rally at Albert Hall.
On Wednesday, a nation-wide distribution begins of the “National Service Guide,” which will contain all the necessary information to enable each citizen to decide where his or her services can best be employed, subject to the schedule, which is to be issued in provisional form the day before, of “reserved occupations.”
The occupations in question are those of such importance in a time of emergency that those engaged in them would best serve the national interests in war by remaining at their posts.
