Why Grow Old?

BY JOSEriIIXE LOWMAN

Maureen O’Sullivan demonstrates how superfluous powder should be dusted off the face.

The old notion about applying cosmetics, which sponsored bright red [ spots in the cheeks that were suggestive of a raging temperature, beaded eye lashes, and heavy white powder, has literally died on its feet! The effect which we strive for now is one of naturalness. Make up should be applied with a light hand. You should keep your natural beauty but raise it into a little higher key. The way powder is applied has the greatest influence on the result you achieve. It is out of style to look as though you had fallen into the flour can. Use a flat piece of cotton or a very light puff. Pat powder all over your face with the exception of the eyelids. Don’t bother about the brows, for you should brush them later anyway, with one of the eyebrow brushes designed for just that purpose. After this, dust off all superfluous powder with a powder brush, which can be bought at any chemist’s shop or store. Do not use a heavy or soiled puff, and never rub powder into the face. If you follow these methods, you will find that your skin will look soft and naturally velvet. Above all, remember that tricks in makeup are just superficial aids in the quest for beauty. Your real foundation | must lie in a health routine that in- ! eludes exercise, sleep, vital foods, relaxation and happy mental attitudes.
