NOW A SCHOOL. —Where children now play , the Russian Empresses Anne and Catherine the Great of Russia once made triumphal entry , for these two famous personages were frequent visitors to this Castle of Rundale, when it was the ancient summer residence of the Duke Johann Ernst Biron of the independent Dukedom of Courland and Zemgale. The castle was built by the famous Italian architect Rastrelli , the architect of the Winter Palace in Leningrad.
