LOWER RENT SOUGHT

THE STATE DWELLINGS REQUEST TO MINISTER I United Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, 20th January. A request that lower rentals for State houses in rural areas be considered was put to the new Minister of Housing the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, in his tour of inspection of departmental work yesterday. Both at Kaiapoi and Rangicra the argument was put forward that because of lower rates, possibly lower building costs, and certainly smaller initial charges for sections there was a case for the revision of the existing scale of rentals as they affected residents of country towns. The Minister’s reply was that he hoped that in time to come every decent working man could live in a house as good as the new State ones. If some men were not earning enough to allow that, then surely .the logical action was to raise their incomes. |
