AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS
AUSTIN MOTOR WORKS SCHEME TO COST £20.000 (British Official NVirelessl RUGBY, sth November. A.R.P. accommodation for a staff of 22,000 persons, including a bombproof shelter at the centre for essential control services, a blastproof concrete shelter for 4000 women members of the staff, and an extensive trench system shelter for male workers is being completed by the Austin Motor Company, at Longbridge factory, near Birmingham, at a cost of £20,000.
In case of an air raid, only one man would be left in the factory in charge of the boiler-house, while, from two splinterw-proof observation posts on high ground, observers would report by internal telephone to the fire-fighting, decontamination, and rescue squads, and the first aid service housed in underground shelters.
