LICENSING LAWS (United Pres* Association! INVERCARGILL, 13th July. Claiming that the greatest enemiefl to temperance in Invercargill were the prohibitionists themselves, Mr IVt H. Mitchel. at to-night’s meeting of the executive of the Southland Progress League, spoke at considerable lengtbl on his notice of motion urging the provision of up-to-date hotels with ali modern conveniences in Invercargill. The motion also sought an expression of opinion from the league that money spent in advertising Southland would largely be wasted until suitable accommodation was provided. | The first part of the motion, whicH ! was presented in two parts, was carried. The second part was replaced by an amendment by Dr. J. A. Pottinger stating that, in the opinion of the league, the licensing legislation of the Dominion stood in urgent need of reform. This amendment found the unanimous support of the meeting.
