Bonnet agreed that another effort should be made by appealing to the nation to support the Government’s effort to protect the franc and establish social peace. An official statement says that the Premier and Finance Minister acquainted Cabinet with the fact that the political and financial situation had grave repercussions on the exchange markets. Cabinet unanimously decided energetically to defend the franc and France’s financial position and authorised M. Chautemps to make a declaration in Parliament in order to associate Parliament and the nation with this effort at public salvation. M. Bonnet issued a statement that the Government unanimously rejected exchange control and regards a balanced budget more than ever indispensable.
