TO PERPETUATE MEMORY OF LORD RUTHERFORD

PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD IN NELSON A suggestion that a public meeting should be held with a view to starting a movement to perpetuate the memory of Lord Rutherford of Nelson, was adopted by the Nelson City Council at last night’s meeting

The Mayor (Mr G. L. Page) read a letter from Lady Rutherford expressing thanks for the council’s expression of sympathy in the death of her husband. Mr Page said he had felt that some movement should be started to suitably perpetuate the memory of Lord Rutherford—in the form of a painting, or a monument—and he moved that a public meeting be called to discuss the matter.

The motion was seconded by Councillor E. R. Neale, who said he knew there was a genuine desire in the district that a memorial be provided. The motion was carried.
