H. Andrews said he had had j a similar experience, and seconded the j motion. Mi E. C. Lawrence agreed that a strong deputation should impress on the Government the difficulties of the restrictions. There was not in New Zealand sufficient staff for the tourist j resorts, to give the service required. He suggested a school to train people to qualify for serving the public. In regard to liquor, he maintained that the quantity consumed in the Sounds was excessive. There was no control over the quantities taken >n at present by tourists. If the accommodation houses were allowed to cater for the desire for liquid refreshment there would be better service and better control over it. The chairman, the Rev. E. T. Cox. said that he had had an experience on the West Coast of difficulty in obtaining a cup of tea at a hotel al 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Mr W. Begg said that after having a meal at noon at Kaikoura on the way he could not obtain anything at hi* hotel till supper-time, at 9 o’clock. The motion was carried.
