STOKE SCHOOL

ANNUAL CONCERT AND PRIZE GIVING Stoke public hall was packed to overflowing for the school break-up concert and prizegiving. The concert went with a swing from start to finish and all present expressed themselves a.s delighted with the evening's entertainment.

Mr Barton, chairman of the school committee, before presenting the prizes, paid a tribute to the work of the staff and thanked them on behalf of the parents. Bouquets were presented to Mrs Morris and Misses Field and Davies. Mr Morris then stated that Miss Davies was leaving to lake up a position as Art Specialist in the Central School. He spoke of the excellent work Miss Davies had done during her three years at Stoke, ancl after wishing her best wishes for the future, asked her to accept a farewell gift from the start ancl children. Mr Barton added the thanks of the parents and Miss Davies suitably replied. The programme was as follows: Opening chorus, “Hail We Give You Greeting”; recitation, “The Greedy Boy,” Hamish Campbell; song, “Owl’s Story,” middle division; recitation, "The Pirate,” Eric Parker; play, “Mary Quite Contrary,” infants; song, “Tir-nan-og,” senior girls; dramatised poem, “Princess and the Gypsies,” middle division; recitation, "Goblinade,” Joan Crawshaw; song, "Cowboys,” senior boys; recitation, “Hiding,” Barbara Shaw; song, “Slumber Song,” middle division; recitation, “Choosing Shoes,” Shirley Stone; song, “I'm Seventeen Come Sunday,” middle division; dramatic poem, “Miss Nan Knockabout,” Trixie Cribble; play, “The Winding Stairs,” middle division; musical revue, “The Sweet Shop,” senior division.
