LOW SCORING AT DUBLIN COWIE’S REMARKABLE FIGURES TOURISTS DEFEAT IRELAND (From the Special Correspondent ol the United Press Association) DUBLIN, 12th September. In the match against Ireland the New Zealanders experienced a day of remarkable cricket on a pitch helping the bowlers. The weather was dull. Ireland collapsed before bowling full of zest after Carson and Roberts had put the heme team on the defensive by the quick capture of two wickets each. Gallichan and Moloney, with accurate spin bowling, finished the innings in under two hours. New Zealand was out in an hour by the spin bowling and devastating fast and medium off-breaks by Boucher, whose analysis read 12 overs, 5 maidens, 13 runs, seven wickets. Ireland’s second innings was a procession of players. Cowie, who was j called on for the first time in the match, bov/led flat out. He took three wickets with four balls and another j with the first ball of the next over. At :one time he had taken six wickets for one run. In New Zealand’s second innings Lowry and Moloney batted steadily and gave the tourists an easy win. The wicket assisted the bowlers as is shown by the extraordinary proportion of batsmen glean bowled. A return match will be played on Tuesday. Scoreu:— Ireland, first innings, 79 (Lambert not jout 25). Bowling: Moloney took three wickets for 26 runs; Gallichan, three for 27; Carson, two for 5; Roberts two for 8. Second innings, 30 (of which 10 were extras). Bowling; Cowie took six wickets for 3 runs; Roberts none for 3; Carson, two for 10; Gallichan, one for 4. ; New Zealand, first innings, 64 (Wallace 20, Weir 11). Second innings, lost | two wickets for 46 runs (Lowry, not j out'3o). j New Zealand won by eight wickets. SANDHAM RETIRING LONDON, 12th September. Sandham has decided to retire from j first-class cricket. The Surrey Club accepted his resignation.
