ALEXANDER Report of Alexander Mines, Limited, for the month of August:— No. 6 Crosscut: Crosscut extended 93 fc-ct, making the total 684 feet from surface. The country has been good, but progress has been slow owing to the amount of water coming from the face. There :s at present a big stream coming in, making conditions unfavourable for working. Stoping: Stoping Carried on in No. 5 and above The intermediate levels. The lode in No. 5 stope still shortens on the north end, but the width of lode gradually improves Above the intermediate level the stopes are approaching the level north of the crosscut where the lode was intersected. There is a failamount of stone to be extracted north of the section being stoped up. Battery: During the period 420 tons of ore were crushed for a return of 2720zs Bdwts melted gold. The cyanide department treated for the same period 268 tons of sands for 88ozs lldwts of bullion. Total estimated value, £2,320. In addition 10.2 tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £327. (Note: In estimating the above values gold has been taken at 140 s per fine ounce.) WHITES ELECTRIC The Whites Electric Gold Dredging Company (Barrytown), Ltd., reports that the engineer supervising the reconstruction of the tables reports as follows as at sth September:—l am pleased to inform you that the work of reconstruction of the tables is almost complete. During the last week nine shifts carried out intermittent dredging permitting adjustments to be made. The distribution and general working of the reconstructed tables proved very satisfactory. During the coining week three shifts daily will be worked. The dredge is now being worked at a capacity of 12,000 yards a week, and there is every indication that it will be possible in future to work at this rate and at the same time make a high percentage of recovery.
