THE WEATHER

COLD AND CHANGEABLE, BUT IMPROVING

The weather is predicted to be cold and changeable, with scattered showers, but improving later.

A strong south-west wind blew up yesterday afternoon and helped to bring the temperature to 75.0 degrees in Nelson, and 75.9 degrees at the Government Research Orchard. But when night came the air turned chilly, the temperature falling to 36.4 degrees in Nelson. The sun shone for 10 hours 45 minutes yesterday. As for several days past to-day commenced overcast but the sun broke through later in the morning, although the temperature was not high. The barometer fell yesterday and last night, and stood at 29.81 this morning.

Pressure was lower over New Zealand this morning, and except bn the West Coast and at Christchurch the weather was overcast and showery. Winds were mainly from the south.
