LONDON, 19th November. Tactful inquiries, I gather, are being made in .and. around Whitehall to ■discover who is the owner of the big Duel dog who did not observe the Two Minutes’ Silence. There are many dogs living in the residential quarters of Whitehall’s official buildings, but the one in question must'have been perplexed and annoyed bv the music and gun-firing qf the Armistice observances, for he raised a full-throated bark at the moment of the Silence and kept it up regularly, throughout the ensuing two-minutes. To those present at the Cenotaph the barking was not particularly noticeable, but unfortunately it was caught up by the microphone and broadcast 'with peculiar emphasis. Listeners wlio observe the silence in their own homes found the noise distracting. The dog, however, had much to excuse him for his display of nerves, and unknown to himself he lias doubtless earned the position of distinction of being the first dog in history to have barked in almost every home throughout the whole of the British Empire.
