ONE BIG UNION MOVEMENT

OTAGO RAILWAZMEN NOT

UNANIMOUS

(United Press Association)

DUNEDIN, 30th June.

It would appear that at Dunedin at least the movement for the formation t>f a combined union of railway workers does not command unanimous support. It is stated that a majority of the members of the Otago branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute is strongly opposed to the constitution of one Pig union. The matter will be discussed at the annual conference of the institute at Wellington this month and not until then will the final decision of the institute be known.

It was stated to-day by Mr D. J. Munrn, president, and Mr C. W. S. White, vice-president of tee Otago branch of the institute, that the Otago branch had not been officially represented at the meeting of railway organisations held on the previous night and that, in fact, only one member of the institute had attended that meeting. No invitations to he present had been issued either officially or unofficially. The views expressed by the combined meeting of railway workers regarding the formation of one big union were definitely not those of the Otago branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute, which wished to dissociate itself from the decisions reached.
