Padgham is a strong favourite in the British Open Golf Championship beginning on 23rd June, for which two qualifying rounds will be played at Hoylake and Wallesley for a hundred places in the competition proper. The Hoylake course has been stretched to 7100 yards, accompanied by a tightening up of some of the holes which, with the usually baffling wind were regarded by some as too long and stiff to be reasonable. Experts do not expect fantastic low scores and express the opinion that an average of fours for the seventytwo holes will be fine golf,' but Padgham practising had a round in sixtyeight.
