Although the Federal Cabinet lias rejected the British Government’s proposals to establish in 1937 a sei’vice of flying-boats from London to Sydney and to carry mails without surcharge, negotiations are continuing between the two Governments concerning the. form in which an air-mail service may be carried on. The Minister of Defence, Mr R. A. Parkhill, stated that while these negotiations are going on lie must refrain from discussing the proposals at any length, but lie could say that Cabinet bad considered a phm to carry on a twice-weekly air-mail .service between Singapore and Australia. The Australian Government sought the co-opera-tion of the British Government in order to reduce the air-mail surcharged postage from Is 6d to 6d per oz.
