ALL SAINTS’ PARISH

SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIZE GIVING

8011, parents and children alike were glacl to have Miss F. Cooke to present the prizes at the annual prize giving in tlie Parish Hall on Tuesday evening, when a large number of adults and children were present. In Her report Mrs Wilkes, superintendent of the Primary School, mentioned thero were 65 children on the roll, just about the same as last year. She favourably commented on the conduct and stressed the need for punctual and regular attendance. When this was carried out by both teachers and scholars it was a. great asset in the efficient running of the school. Mr A. McConchie, superintendent of the Senior School, reported a very slight decrease in attendance—from 110 to 105—which he regretfully attributed to the difficulty in keeping the classes fully staffed with teachers. Very deep regret was expressed at the death of Miss Selina Davidson, and the desire of putting in a memorial in the Children’s Corner in the church was mentioned. The two schools also regretfully parted with several teachers because of removal or sickness—Misses N. and J. Sykes, G. Hazeldene, Mrs Goodwin, and Mr J. J. Holmes, but they were very grateful for the extra help of Misses F. Smith. Buchanan, June Coleman, and Mrs McConchie. The vicar, the Rev. D. Haultain, sincerely thanked all the teachers for their great help. He specially urged the parents to encourage the children to attend the morning service by linking up in the Young Worshippers’ League. One reason why the Sunday School was moved from the afternoon to the morning was to create a greater link between the Sunday School and the church. “Sunday School for instruction ; the church service for worship” was the ideal. He also referred to the coming of Mr Neil Chambers as curate in the parish, and how the young people’s work would benefit. All the Sunday schools of All Saints’ parish are now in recess until the first Sunday in February. The children were asked to combine in the Parish Church for a Christmas service next Sunday morning at II o’clock when there will be the children’s choir.
